Duration of Appointment: Initially for Five years, with a provision for renewal.
Compensation: A salary that is commensurate with market and the experience of the right candidate.
NCAER’s Human Development and Data Innovation Centre has two focus areas. Substantively, it focusses on human development and gender. Methodologically, it undertakes research on data collection methods and seeks to enhance India’s data ecosystem. In a dynamic research and policy environment and changing socio-economic conditions with a growing demand for data, it is crucial to invest in methods of data collection leading to the attainment of timely, high-quality, and policy relevant data to design and implement policies in fields including health, education, mobility, gender, employment, equity, and social protection. We are inviting applications for the position of a Professor. The selected candidate will play a leadership role in managing the affairs of the Centre.
It is expected that the candidate will:
- Supervise and engage in the execution of a portfolio of research projects/grants including developing research proposals, appropriate research methods, data collection methods, timely delivery of research outputs, and technical advice to NCAER’s sponsors;
- Deliver agreed research outputs to sponsors on a timely basis consistent with NCAER’s quality norms, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and preparing accessible policy briefs for policymakers;
- Maintain a strong research and publication pipeline and contribute to high-quality content for disseminating NCAER’s research in the areas of interest;
- Foster collaboration among economists, social scientists and policymakers to strengthen NCAER’s reputation and influence and identify opportunities for attracting research grants;
- Contribute to research dissemination and capacity building; senior faculty’s interaction with policymakers at state and central government levels independently; and,
- Mentor junior researchers.
Qualifications, demonstrated experience and skills
- PhD in economics and/or advanced professional degrees in social sciences such as Public Policy, Geography, Sociology, Demography with at least 15-20 years of professional experience.
- Excellent general skills in economic and social sciences analysis with expertise in the areas at the intersection of development economics (e.g., human development, growth, poverty, inequality, gender)
- Excellent writing, communication, and presentation skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills, a flexible and cooperative attitude, and the ability to work effectively with people at all levels. Ability to work both independently and in teams.
- Superior time/project management skills are essential.
