NCAER Professor and Director of the National Data Innovation Centre at NCAER, Sonalde Desai, who holds a joint appointment as Distinguished University Professor at University of Maryland, has been appointed to a consensus study panel on “Women’s Empowerment, Population Dynamics, and Socioeconomic Development” of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, the collective national academies of the United States. The panel will carry out a study to review the available data on the seminal issue of women’s empowerment and its impact on global social and economic development. The study, being sponsored by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, will bring together a multi-disciplinary committee of experts mandated to develop a comprehensive conceptual framework, critically assess policy options, and set an agenda for future research in the sphere of women’s empowerment.
