Events A book edited by IEPF Chair Professor, titled Claiming the Unclaimed: Unlocking the Potential of Idle Financial Assets in India, was released on 22 June 2026. The book proposes a citizen-centric, interoperable national framework for managing unclaimed financial assets by integrating asset discovery, verification, settlement, institutional coordination, digital financial literacy, and assisted support services to facilitate the return of unclaimed financial assets to their rightful owners with transparency, dignity, and trust. The IEPF Chair Professor at NCAER, Dr C S Mohapatra has contributed two chapters in the book, including one co-authored with Mr Dhirendra Kumar, Member, IEPFA and CEO, Value Research, and Ms Depannita Ghosh, Senior Research Analyst, IEPF Chair Unit, NCAER.
In her keynote address at the book launch ceremony, Ms Deepti Gaur Mukerjee, Chairperson, IEPFA and Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, highlighted the need for building a more accessible and citizen-focused ecosystem for reclaiming unclaimed financial assets. Ms Anita Shah Akella, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, noted the evolving role of technology, awareness initiatives, and institutional partnerships in strengthening investor protection. Shri M. Nagaraju, Former Secretary, DFS, emphasised the role of sustained awareness and institutional collaboration in helping citizens reconnect with their financial assets. The panel discussion brought together senior representatives from SEBI and leading public sector banks to discuss how unclaimed financial assets and dormant accounts could be effectively identified, traced and returned to their rightful owners. The book launch ceremony was attended by Dr Anil K. Sharma, Secretary and Operations Director, NCAER, and Ms. Depannita Ghosh, Senior Research Analyst, IEPF Chair Unit, NCAER.
