Sudipto Mundle is a Non-resident Senior Fellow at NCAER. Formerly, he was an Emeritus Professor at the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy, New Delhi. He serves on several corporate and other boards. He was also a member of the Fourteenth Finance Commission, the erstwhile Monetary Policy Advisory Committee of the RBI and the National Statistical Commission, where he also acted as Chairman.
He spent much of his career at the Asian Development Bank, Manila, from where he retired as a Director in the Strategy and Policy Department in 2008. In his earlier career in India he served in several academic institutions including the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, the Centre for Development Studies, Trivandrum, and NIPFP, New Delhi, where he was the Reserve Bank Chair Professor. He has had visiting assignments at Yale University, USA; Cambridge University, UK; the Institute of Social Studies at the Hague and the Japan Foundation, Tokyo. He was also an economic adviser in India’s Ministry of Finance from 1986 to 1989. His current research interests include development economics, macroeconomic policy and modelling, public expenditure policy and governance.
Santanu Pramanik is a Senior Fellow at NCAER and the Deputy Director of the National Data Innovation Centre. He is a Statistician and Survey Methodologist by training.
His research interests lie in survey methods, data quality, remote monitoring of data collection activities, randomized controlled trials, small area estimation and these methods being applied across different substantive domains including vaccination, health insurance & healthcare expenditure, family planning. Before joining NCAER he worked as a Research Scientist at the Public Health Foundation of India (PHFI). Prior to joining PHFI, Santanu was based in Washington DC as a Survey Statistician at NORC, an independent affiliate of the University of Chicago.
Pallavi Choudhuri is a Senior Fellow and the Deputy Director at the NCAER-National Data Innovation Center (NDIC). Her primary research interests are in the areas of social protection, informality, poverty, employment, and gender. Previously, at NDIC, she has led experiments on measurement gaps in income and consumption data and women’s paid and unpaid work. She is part of the core research team for the Indian Human Development Survey (IHDS), involved with the design and implementation of the third wave of the survey.
Her work has been published in both international and domestic journals, along with contributions to Indian (English language) newspapers. She is the lead editor of the book, “India’s Social and Economic Transformation in the 21st Century”, an edited volume of articles using data from various rounds of the IHDS, published by Routledge (2023).
She is an active member of several national and international organizations in economics and demography and has also served on government committees during my work at NCAER.
Prior to joining NCAER, Choudhuri taught courses in Economics at the Grand Valley State University in Michigan as a Visiting Assistant Professor. She received my PhD. in Economics from the University of Wyoming.
Nijara Deka is a Fellow at NCAER. She is an applied micro-economist with a passion for innovation and research in understanding the value of wellbeing and human development and the measurement of broader outcomes in the evaluation of different public policies, including capabilities and subjective wellbeing. She also has research interests in social inequality, labour and the informal sector, economics of education and health, and sustainable development.
Over the last six years, she has worked on many public policy projects. She obtained her Doctoral degree at the Centre for the Study of Regional Development, Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), New Delhi, on analysing Deprivation Characteristics of the Urban Poor, with a case study of Guwahati city, Assam.
She joined the Rajiv Gandhi Institute for Contemporary Studies in 2016. In 2018, she supported the data analysis and drafting of the report on a Study of a Road Infrastructure Project in North East India Borderland, conducted by the Special Centre for the Study of North East India, JNU.
She was awarded a Foreign Travel Grant by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) to attend the annual Conference of Human Development and Capability Association held at Georgetown University, Washington D.C., USA, in 2015. She also received the Doctoral Fellowship of ICSSR and the Basic Scientific Research (BSR) Fellowship in 2013.
