Impact Assessment and Economic Benefits of Weather and Marine Services

The study aims to estimate the economic and social benefits of the services provided by the Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES) as well as benefits realised by beneficiaries and their perception about the reliability and utility of such services. The services chosen for this study were agro-meteorological advisory, fishery, tsunami warning, severe weather warning and public weather forecasting.

India Policy Forum 2009-10

The sixth India Policy Forum (IPF) conference was held at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi, during July 14-15, 2009. Prof. Guillemaro A. Calvo, Columbia University, School of International and Public Affairs, delivered the sixth annual IPF lecture titled “Lessons from Systemic Financial Crisis(with Special Reference to Emerging Markets)”. A joint publication of NCAER and the Brookings Institution, IPF serves as a forum for a global network of scholars interested in India’s economic transformation. This Volume has been edited by Suman Berry, Barry Bosworth and Arvind Panagariya.

Moving to Goods and Services Tax in India: Impact on India’s Growth and International Trade

The differential multiple tax regime across sectors of production leads to distortions in allocation of resources thus introducing inefficiencies in the sectors of domestic production. With regard to India’s exports, this leads to lack of international competitiveness of the sectors which would have been relatively efficient under distortion- free indirect tax regime.
