The India Policy Forum (IPF) is NCAER’s marquee conference, held every summer in New Delhi since 2003 and attended by a galaxy of eminent policymakers, academic scholars, practitioners, and members of the research fraternity, both from India and overseas.

The by-invite event aims to promote empirical economic research on India through commissioned papers presented and discussed at the conference, which are subsequently edited, and finally published in a conference volume. Additionally, the IPF features policy lectures and roundtable discussions.

The 21st edition of the two-day IPF conference is being jointly hosted by NCAER, NITI Aayog and The World Bank. It will be held from 2-3 July, 2024 and see the presentation of four papers:

  • ‘Rethinking Social Safety Nets in a Changing Society’ by Sonalde Desai
  • Female Leadership in Corporate India: Firm Performance and Culture’ by Ratna Sahay, Mahima Vasishth, and Navya Srivastava
  • ‘India’s Foreign Reserves and Global Risk’ by Ken Kletzer and Chetan Ghate
  • ‘Economic Development of Punjab: Prospects and Policies’ by Nirvikar Singh, Lakhwinder Singh and, Prakarsh Singh.

Do watch this space for summaries of the upcoming paper presentations at IPF 2024 on Ideas for India (I4I) and NCAER’s website and social media.

These papers will be finally released in the IPF 2024 Volume whose editors are: Dr Poonam Gupta (Director General, NCAER); Dr Karthik Muralidharan (University of California, San Diego); and Dr Pravin Krishna (Johns Hopkins University).

IPF 2024 will also see the launch of the 20th IPF 2023 volume with papers presented at IPF 2023. You can see the blog series of paper summaries from IPF 2023 here.

IPF 2024 will also feature;

  • The 6th TN Srinivasan Memorial Lecture to be delivered by IMF Chief Economist, Dr Pierre-Olivier Gourinchas, on ‘Cracks in the System: How Geo-economic Fragmentation is Reshaping the Global Economy’;

and panel discussions on:

  • ‘Digitalisation and Development’
  • ‘States’ Fiscal Challenges’
  • ‘The Middle Income Trap’
  • ‘Employment Challenges in India and Beyond’
  • ‘India’s Economic Prospects in a Turbulent World’
