Sam Asher is an Associate Professor of economics at Imperial College London Business School and cofounder of Development Data Lab. He was previously an assistant professor of international economics at Johns Hopkins SAIS and before that an economist at the Development Research Group (DECRG, World Bank). He is an associate of the Bureau for Research and the Economic Analysis of Development (BREAD) and the Centre for International Development (Harvard University).
He has published papers in the American Economic Review, American Economic Journal: Applied Economics, Economic Journal, Review of Economics and Statistics, Management Science, and the World Bank Economic Review.
He received his Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University and was then a postdoctoral research fellow in the Economics Department and Nuffield College, University of Oxford.
Sandeep Singhal, a co-founder and Managing Director of WestBridge Capital, is based out of Bengaluru. He also co-founded and was Managing Director of Sequoia Capital India. Sandeep serves or has served on the boards of more than 25 public and private companies.
Sandeep is a founder and serves as the Chairman of the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Ahmedabad Endowment and a founder and board member of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Delhi Endowment. He is a founder of Ashoka University and Plaksha University, through his family foundation. He also serves as a trustee on the board of Ashoka Trust for Research in Ecology and Environment and has served as a trustee for the India Foundation for the Arts. In addition, he co-founded, with Grandmaster Vishwanathan Anand, the WestBridge Anand Chess Academy, a fellowship programme to nurture and mentor some of the top chess talents in the country in their bid to become world champions.
Sandeep holds an MBA with distinction from IIM Ahmedabad, an MS in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois, where he was awarded the Abraham Lincoln Fellowship, and a BTech in Chemical Engineering from IIT Delhi.
Jayanta Talukder is an Associate Fellow in the Human Development & Data Innovation Centre at NCAER.
He has previously worked in the National Macroeconomic Growth Centre at NCAER. He has completed his Ph.D. from University at Albany, Suny, New York. He has Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Economics from Jadavpur University and the University of Calcutta, respectively.
He has also worked at various research and teaching institutions, including the Office of Mental Health, New York as an Intern; University at Albany, New York as Adjunct Instructor, Research Analyst, and Teaching Assistant; Jadavpur University as a Research Associate; and, Bandhan Financial Services Pvt Ltd as a Summer Intern.
