Piyali Majumder

Piyali Majumder is an Associate Fellow at NCAER. She completed her Ph.D. and M.Phil. from Jawaharlal Nehru University. She did her M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Economics from University of Calcutta. Her areas of interest are International Trade, Environmental Economics, Advanced Econometrics, and Spatial Econometrics.

She has worked at various teaching and research institutions including Indian Institute of Technology, New Delhi as Post-Doctoral Fellow; Indian Council for Research on International Economic Relations as Consultant; Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade, Ministry of Commerce and Industry as a Consultant; and, both Indian Institute of Foreign Trade and Jawaharlal Nehru University as a Research Associate.

Udaibir Das

Udaibir Das is a Visiting Professor at the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER). With a finance and international economics background, complemented by graduate-level work in economics and law, he has built a distinguished four-decade career shaping macro-financial policy, central banking, and financial sector governance. He has held senior positions at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Bank for International Settlements (BIS), Reserve Bank of India, and Bank of Guyana. He has worked closely on operational and technical issues with the World Bank.

A trusted advisor to policymakers, Mr. Das has provided strategic guidance to over 40 countries on economic, regulatory, and institutional issues related to the financial sector, particularly at its macroeconomic intersections, including public debt and sovereign risk. He has played a key role in shaping responses to global financial crises and assessing their impact on the international financial architecture, from the Asian financial crisis to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Beyond policy work, Mr. Das is actively engaged in teaching, mentoring, and thought leadership. He contributes regularly through commentaries, blogs, and podcasts, offering insights on Africa, the Global South, emerging markets, climate finance, sustainability, and the evolving role of technology in policymaking.

In addition to his role at NCAER, he serves as a Senior Non-Resident Adviser at the Bank of England (UK), Senior Adviser to the International Forum of Sovereign Wealth Funds (UK), Distinguished Fellow at ORF America (USA), Distinguished Visiting Faculty at the Kautilya School of Public Policy (India), and Senior Advisor at the Toronto Centre (Canada). He is also a COMESA Monetary Institute (Kenya) faculty member.

Karan Raj

Karan Raj is working at NCAER as a Research Analyst. His primary research interest is in micro-econometrics. He has a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Christ (Deemed to be University) and Master’s degree from University of Warwick.
